Style icon no.2 Kurt Cobain
A man of many layers, Kurt Cobain was one of the pioneers of the grunge style which has recently been adapted in the Dries Van Noten ss collection. He layered knitted jumpers and cardigans, graphic t shirts, plaid shirts, baggy patched up jeans and converse creating an interesting array of textures and patterns and ann effortless look which has been recreated world-wide ever since. Since I was a teenager I have admired Kurt Cobain not only for his music but for his bohemian style and though my style has changed quite dramatically since then, I still like to gaze through photos of him in attempt to soak up some of his style.

British Vogue April 2013 Shoot - Plain Song
I immediately fell for this shoot in British Vogue this month.
The model (Athena Wilson) has such a unique look with dark hair and full brows, her look really translates well to a photograph.
Textures are totally maximised in this shoot with gathered fabrics lit strongly to emphasise the light and shadows created by the garment. The mix of plain and scrunched backgrounds highlights the simple but shapely nature of the clothes.
I also love the styling in this shoot with the mix of masculine and feminine shapes worn by such an androgynous model.
My final note would be to mention the beautiful Manolo Blahnik black and white brogues worn in the shoot which look positively fetching.

Restless
I watched Gus Van Sant's Restless again last night and was reminded of how much I love the character Annabel Cotton (played by Mia Wasikowska) and the way that she is dressed throughout. Her quirky, tomboyish style mixes so many styles and eras together to create totally eccentric looks. Might I add too that her haircut in this film is perfectly elegant and has made me want to cut all of mine off again.

Draw In Light Autumn/ Winter 2013/14
I don't know where to begin with this collection. I love the boyishly handsome girl and her hair, the tidal wave detailing on the shirts and dresses, the dip dyed socks, the slouchy nature of the baggy shorts, hoodies, flat sandals and loose t shirts juxtaposed with the more delicate and elegant dresses, the ongoing palette of blues, reds, whites and black and the mix of light and heavy fabrics. There is something subtle about this collection and yet so brave.
Draw in Light use free hand silk screen printing techniques so that every piece made is truly unique.

Patrik Ervell Autumn Winter 13/14
I just love most aspects of this collection, the running theme of deep greens, the touches of cool combined with slightly masculine tailoring and even choice the photography, with rooted up shrubbery standing tall in the background. Patrik Ervell who is most widely known for his menswear collections has been designing womenswear for a few years now, adapting his use futuristic materials and lean tailoring to these collections. His style has been well translated to create quite a unique womenswear collection which I really adore.

Johnathan Simkhai A/W 13/14
This Simkhai collection is cool though a little nerdy, ghetto yet a bit preppy and sporty but formal. I just love the navy blue and tweed coat.

Lacoste Autumn Winter 2013/2014
Lacoste has taken tracksuits to a new level for the autumn winter collection. The streamlined collection balances loose and tight fits with rounded shoulders and midi skirts to create bubble like silhouettes with an almost science fiction vibe. The marbled and mountainous prints mixed with the graphic lines and colours really finish off the looks. The entire collection looks comfortable and wearable as well as totally eye catching, what more could you ask for?

Johnny Flynn in Toast Mens Catalogue
What a nice surprise it was to have Johnny Flynn staring back at me when I opened up the Toast mens catalogue this month. What a joy it is to page through the unique designs and interesting photography every season and with the added appearance of mr Flynn, my gaze has been securely captured. Johnny Flynn will be touring this summer and I must make sure that I'm in his audience.

Kenzo A/W 2013/14 Collection
From the tailored monochrome suit to rounded shoulders to the various fabric patterns and multiple colours, the Kenzo A/W 13/14 collection has its fingers in a lot of pies, a lot of very tasty pies. The variation of shapes and fabrics actually work really well together and help to create a really interesting and varying collection.

Dr Martens New Pastel Collection
From top: 1461 Shoe, Harrie Boot, Pascal Boot, 3989 Shoe.
I have just fallen in love with the new Dr Martens collection featuring a multitude of pastel shades and some eye catching brogue like detailing. I love the mouth watering citrus shade of the 1461 shoe and am sure that I haven't seen this colour on a shoe before. But it's the 3989 shoe which has really caught my attention. A multicoloured Dr Martens brogue in bubblegum shades of blue and purple. These are on my wish list!
